The book in my opinion deserves a 7 out of 10. It was a little bit of a let down at the end. It was unexpected but i just didnt like the way it ended. What happened to the Director? Did he get sent to Iceland, did he get killed, or maybe he just left. It bottles my mind on what happened to him. So overally if you like weird books this is the book for you. Im not a fan of these types of books usually. This book was a little dry at the begining but it fell into a more interesting middle and then fell into a poor ending.
The end of the book got me by surprise. I didnt think John would snap. He killed Lenina by whipping her to death which was a little harsh in my opinion. Then it was depressing to know that John hanged himself. It was quite sad to read and I thought John would be the center piece making changes but it didnt happen that way. I didnt like the way this book ended.
John is feeling all sorts of emotions right now, he felt mad at his mom for calling him Popé. When doing so, out of agression, shakes his mother violently. I understand he is mad but that was unneeded since she's on her death bed. She does end up dying and sadness and madness take over John. He takes it out on the children observing whats happening.
Bernard arranges a meeting with highly important people telling them they have a chance af meeting the savage. But John decides to not come out of his room. I wouldn't blame him because it would be a lot to take in. John also breaks down when Lenina tries again to sleep with him. He dropped to his needs reciting Shakespeare and then calls Lenina a whore and slaps her. The probability of going to Iceland for John has dropped to zero. I feel Bernard is in a position to become the Director.
So the director resigned?!?! I feel he was just too ashamed to be in the position he was in and have his secret exposed! So then maybe he can come back for revenge on Bernard? Then we have John and his conflict with Lenina. She likes him and I know that John, coming from a place where a relationship means something, wont have sex with her. He is curious about her though. In my opinion, he shouldnt do it. So with him rejecting her so far, Lenina just takes soma and tries to be happy.
These two chapters are standing out more than the other four have in the idea that Bernard is starting to peak out of his little shell. In chapter five he didn't show interest in the orgy they had at the end of chapter 5. In chapter 6, he went on a date with Lenina and they went to watch a wrestling match together. After the wrestling, Lenina and Bernard went off and away to where she persuaded to him have soma. Then he really stepped out of his shell when he had sex with her.
